  • Resumen del Proyecto

    Diabetes and the enhancement use of natural sources, in order to generate added value, are priority issues framed in policies and research priorities from UMSA, and Bolivian government. According to these priorities, during the first five years, this project aims to study food plants, which could have potentially medicinal anti-diabetic properties using preclinical animal models. The results obtained during this first phase would be useful to develop clinical studies in order to evaluate and generate an innovative novel therapy to prevention, treatment and/or control of Diabetes type 2 (second phase). This strategy was chosen because there is scientific evidence, proved in experimental (Hung et al., 2012; Yassin et al., 2011; Öberg et al., 2011; Hoa et al., 2009; Hoa et al., 2007; Hoa et al., 2004; Norberg et al., 2004) and clinical models (Bhatt et al., 2012; Malekshahi et al., 2012; Huyen et al., 2010; Huyen et al., 2012; Huyen et al., 2013) about antidiabetic properties of natural products (Rudkowska 2012; Lee...Ver mas

    • Improve the Diabetes Mellitus type 2 therapy through research on potentially nutraceutical plants and training of human resources in the area. Preclinical phase
      Increase the number of specialized researchers on Diabetes through the master and doctoral training.
      Improve the research team on Diabetes through the knowledge transfer and the strengthening of local post-graduate programs
      Upgrade the native food plants use through the scientific validation of anti-diabetic medicinal prop
  • Objetivos Especificos

    • - Objective Specific Nº 1 Increase the number of researchers on Diabetes topic at Instituto de Investigaciones Farmaco Bioquímicas (IIFB) - Objective Specific Nº 2 Increase the scientific knowledge about the native potentially nutraceutical plants that will be used on studies of pharmacological activity. - Objective Specific Nº 3 Improve the work conditions with cell and animals of experimentation that will be used on studies of pharmacological activity. - Objective Specific Nº 4 Upgrade the knowledge about the potentially nutraceutical plants through the evaluation of their hypoglycemic and anti-oxidant activity in cell and animals models. - Objective Specific Nº 5 Increase the knowledge about the potentially nutraceutical plants through phytochemical studies to characterize the active principles of interest
